Getting There: Teleports and Preparation
The easiest way to reach Barrows is by using Barrows Teleport Tablets, which you can grab on the Grand Exchange. Having a few in your inventory will save you time and make multiple trips much smoother.
Recommended Gear and Setup
4 out of the 6 Barrows Brothers are weak to magic, and after recent updates, they're especially vulnerable to air spells. You don't need heavy magic-boosting gear—just a staff and some runes will do the trick. Here's a solid setup:
· Magic Weapon & Runes: Mystic Air Staff + Death Runes
· Armor: Torag's body and legs or Rune Armor (for a simpler alternative)
· Other Weapons:
· Whip and Magic Shortbow for Karil and Ahrim
· Dragon Dagger (for special attacks)
· Optional Ranged Armor Switch: Black Dragonhide
Other useful items:
· Magic Boosts: Occult Necklace
· Arrow Management: Ava's Device
· Teleportation: Ring of Dueling (to Ferox Enclave for banking and healing)
· Prayer Management: Ghommal's Hilt 2 (achievement diary reward) to prevent prayer drain, or extra prayer potions if you don't have it
Inventory essentials:
· Spade (to dig into mounds)
· Prayer Potions & Restore Potions
· High-healing food (Sea Turtles recommended)
· Experiment with quantities, but at a minimum: 3 prayer potions and 10 sea turtles
Boss Strategy: Taking Down the Brothers
When you arrive at Barrows, you'll see six mounds. Each mound contains a brother in his crypt. Here's a simple route that works well for beginners:
1. Dharok the Wretched
Start with Dharok—his special ability increases his damage as his HP drops. Protect against melee and attack with magic. Prayer flicking your offensive magic prayers can give an extra boost.
2. Guthan the Infested
Second melee brother. His special attack restores his prayer. Flick your melee prayer if you like, but he's much less dangerous than Dharok.
3. Torag the Corrupted
Reduces your run energy—minor nuisance. Use the same strategy as the previous bosses.
4. Verac the Defiled
Can hit through prayer and ignore defense. Still, use prayer as it reduces the chance of heavy hits. Keep an eye on HP and eat accordingly.
5. Ahrim the Blighted
The magic brother. Equip Black Dragonhide, pray Magic, and open with Dragon Dagger special attacks. If he survives, finish him with your ranged weapon. His special reduces strength, so use a restore potion if needed.
6. Karil the Tainted
The ranged brother. Pray Ranged and use any remaining Dragon Dagger specs. Finish him with your primary melee weapon. His special reduces ranged level, another reason for your restore potion.
Entering the Tunnels
One brother will always be absent from his crypt and waiting in the tunnels. To access the tunnels:
1. Click through the dialogue at the missing brother's crypt.
2. Navigate the randomized tunnel layout to reach the center room containing the chest.
3. Be prepared—your final brother can spawn when opening any door and is guaranteed to spawn when you open the chest. Use the correct prayer.
Rewards Tips
· Use the Runelite Barrows plugin to monitor your rewards percentage. It won't affect rare drops but will improve the consistency of runes, bolt racks, and other loot.
· Solve the small puzzle at the final door to enter the reward chamber.
· Kill the final brother if he spawns, then open the chest for your loot.
· Make sure you have enough inventory space to collect everything.
Why Barrows is Worth It
Even if you don't get one of the rare Barrows items (1/15 chance), the average value of runes and bolt racks is around 40k GP per trip. Some Barrows items sell for millions, making this an excellent money-making activity for mid-game and Ironman accounts alike.
Final Thoughts
Barrows can seem intimidating at first, but with the right preparation and strategy, it's straightforward and extremely rewarding. Take your time, bring the right gear, and experiment with inventory setup until you find what works best for you.
