OSRS Barracuda Trials Guide: Unlock Every Reward Faster
Jul-29-2026 PSTStruggling with OSRS Barracuda Trials? Discover the best routes, key rewards, Sailing requirements, and tricks to clear every trial from Swordfish to Marlin.
What Are OSRS Barracuda Trials?
Barracuda Trials are short, repeatable Sailing activities designed around movement, hazards, and specific objectives.
Instead of simply racing to the finish, each course asks you to complete additional tasks. Depending on the trial, you may need to deliver cargo, collect lost supplies, guide Jubbly birds, manage wind boosts, cheap OSRS gold or interact with crystals and portals.
There are three Barracuda Trials currently available:
| Trial | Sailing Level | Location | Main Challenge |
| The Tempor Tantrum | 30 | Storm Tempor | Deliver rum and collect supplies |
| The Jubbly Jive | 55 | Backwater | Guide Jubbly birds and collect crates |
| The Gwenith Glide | 72 | Porth Gwenith | Manage wind, portals, crystals, and supplies |
All three require a Skiff, while the higher-level trials also require specific boat parts and other progression.
Barracuda Trials Ranks Explained
Each course has four difficulty levels:
Unranked
Swordfish
Shark
Marlin
Don't make the classic mistake of treating every attempt like a speedrun.
The best progression is to learn the course at Unranked or Swordfish first. Once the movement feels consistent, move up to Shark and eventually Marlin.
A fast completion can still fail if you ignore the trial's required objectives.
| Trial | Rank | Target Time | Main Requirement | One-Time Reward |
| Tempor Tantrum | Swordfish | 1:48 | Rum + required crates | Stormy key |
| Tempor Tantrum | Shark | 2:51 | Full crate collection | Barrel stand + Whirlpool surprise |
| Tempor Tantrum | Marlin | 4:30 | Three laps + full collection | Ralph's fabric roll |
| Jubbly Jive | Swordfish | 2:03 | 1 bird + 20 boxes | Fetid key |
| Jubbly Jive | Shark | 3:00 | 2 birds + 38 boxes | Captured wind mote |
| Jubbly Jive | Marlin | 5:21 | 3 birds + 56 boxes | Gurtob's fabric roll |
| Gwenith Glide | Swordfish | 2:00 | Supplies + crystals | Serrated key |
| Gwenith Glide | Shark | 3:42 | Increased supplies + crystals | Heart of Ithell |
| Gwenith Glide | Marlin | 6:09 | Full crystal + portal route | Gwyna's fabric roll |
These target times and rewards reflect the values checked on July 26, 2026. Because Sailing is still a relatively new skill, check current game information before committing to a long grind.
The Tempor Tantrum Guide
Protect Your Momentum
The Tempor Tantrum takes place in the Storm Tempor and focuses on delivering rum shipments while collecting lost supplies.
The course's biggest threat is momentum management.
Rapids can give your Skiff a temporary speed boost, OSRS gold while lightning clouds damage and slow you. Rocks can wipe out your extra momentum immediately.
The basic route is simple:
Enter with the required iron helm, oak mast, and linen sails.
Dismiss all crewmates before starting.
Use Unranked or Swordfish to learn the delivery loop.
Collect lost supplies during the route rather than leaving them until the end.
Avoid lightning instead of trying to tank through it.
If you leave the trial area, return within 10 seconds or lose your progress.
The Stormy key from Swordfish opens the Storm Cruiser chest route, while the Shark reward unlocks additional boat utility.
Don't chase Marlin just because it exists. If lightning keeps destroying your runs, more practice is worth more than forcing a bad speedrun.
The Jubbly Jive Guide
Toad Placement Comes First
The Jubbly Jive is completely different.
Instead of dealing with storm hazards, you use balloon toads to lure Jubbly birds while collecting supply crates.
Fetid pools slow your boat, making route planning and timing crucial.
The most reliable approach is:
Identify the next outcrop before throwing a balloon toad.
Throw as soon as the target is in range.
Avoid unnecessary toad throws that waste movement cycles.
Use Trim Sail before entering a dangerous fetid pool.
Consider a Wind catcher when pushing toward Marlin.
The biggest reward breakpoint is the Captured wind mote from the Shark rank.
It can be used to build a Wind catcher or Gale catcher, making it useful beyond the Jubbly Jive itself.
The Gwenith Glide Guide
Wind Control Is Everything
The Gwenith Glide is the highest-level Barracuda Trial, requiring 72 Sailing, Regicide, an Adamant keel, and a Wind catcher or Gale catcher.
This course combines several mechanics at once:
Wind motes
Speed boosts
Portals
Resonance crystals
Lost supplies
Crystal imbuing
The biggest danger is the crystallised helm.
When resonance crystals affect the helm, click it three times to break them. The damage increases over time, so ignoring the mechanic can turn a good run into a death.
Don't Overvalue Boat Upgrades
A stronger boat can give you more room for mistakes, but it cannot fix poor route execution.
If you keep missing portals or failing to manage crystals, buying more speed is not the solution.
Practice the course at Unranked first, then move to Swordfish and Shark.
Only push Marlin once wind uptime, crystal removal, and portal timing feel automatic.
Which Barracuda Trial Should You Do First?
Your goal should determine the route you choose.
| Goal | Best Target | Why |
| Learn Sailing movement | Tempor Tantrum Swordfish | Teaches boosts, hazards, deliveries, and supplies |
| Unlock boat utility | Tempor Shark | Provides Barrel stand progression |
| Unlock wind equipment | Jubbly Shark | Provides Captured wind mote |
| Prepare for crystal content | Gwenith Shark | Unlocks Crystal extractor progression |
| Complete cosmetics | Relevant Marlin rank | Provides fabric roll rewards |
| Train casually | Salvaging or charting | Avoids time-trial pressure |
The key rewards are progression items rather than something you need to chase through the player market.
If you lose a reward, check the relevant trial master or item page for its current reclaim rules.
Common Barracuda Trials Mistakes
1. Bringing the Wrong Boat
All Barracuda Trials require a Skiff, and the Sailing level requirements cannot be boosted.
2. Leaving Crew on Board
Dismiss your crew before starting. Otherwise, the trial won't begin.
3. Treating Every Trial Like a Race
A fast time means nothing if you fail the required objective or miss essential supplies.
4. Using the Wrong Route
Tempor Tantrum is about storm hazards and momentum.
Jubbly Jive is about toad placement and fetid pools.
Gwenith Glide is about wind, portals, and crystal management.
Don't play all three the same way.
5. Ignoring Crystal Damage
If the helm crystallises during Gwenith Glide, stop and break the crystals. Trying to brute-force the route is a fast way to lose the run.
6. Buying Upgrades Instead of Practicing
A faster boat helps, but execution is still king.
If your route is messy, more speed only makes your mistakes happen faster.
Final Verdict
OSRS Barracuda Trials are less about blindly chasing the fastest possible time and more about learning how each course works.
Start with Tempor Tantrum at 30 Sailing, move to Jubbly Jive at 55, and tackle Gwenith Glide at 72 once your Sailing fundamentals are solid.
For most players, the smartest path is Unranked → Swordfish → Shark → Marlin.
Learn the route first, grab the useful one-time rewards, buy OSRS gold then decide whether the extra XP and cosmetics justify the grind.
And remember: if your Skiff is moving at maximum speed straight into a rock, congratulations-you've discovered the fastest possible way to lose a Barracuda Trial.
